Well, it’s a new year–a new decade actually!–so it’s time to reflect and make goals! As I sit back, I realize that this year so many things are going to happen: I am going to FINALLY graduate with my PhD and get a “big girl” job (fingers crossed)! Along with that, I know there is so much room for personal growth to help me attain those goals and others just for self-growth and health.
Stretch and Become More Flexible: I used to be so flexible, but I haven’t done the best over the past few years of maintaining that flexibility. Once I turned 30, I felt as everything just stiffened up! So, I plan on stretching at least 5-10 minutes a day just to gain that flexibility back and also to help not injure myself in workouts! Maybe by next year I will have my splits back!
Working Out: I have been slack-a-lacking on this. Since we’ve moved and I have been so swamped with work we haven’t made time to work out. We are joining a gym at the beginning of this year, so I plan to make that part of my regular routine! I can’t wait to get back in and start feeling good again!
Reading for Pleasure: I would say one goal is to read more, but I realized I read SO much every day while writing my dissertation. Instead of reading journal articles and research books, I plan on reading more for pleasure. I want to re-read through all of the classics before I jump into newer books. I just want to re-familiarize myself with the classics and I admittedly don’t really remember so much from high school (ha!). I read a few classics this past year (Peter Pan, Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn) and I am starting off this year with Little Women! I am so excited to read this so I can be prepared to watch the movie that everyone is raving about!
Writing: Again, I write every single day whether if it’s for my dissertation or another manuscript. I would like to set more time aside to write more blog posts this year. My goal is to write at least one per week! I have also decided to focus a lot of my posts on college and grad school, so that the content will be helpful for you all and I will be able to use it in future courses or even….a book? (stay tuned for that crazy thought haha)
Managing Projects: My main focus right now is to finish my dissertation. Along with that, as a grad student, I am expected to collaborate on other projects and manuscripts. I have certainly been contributing to other manuscripts, but I have let teaching and dissertating get in the way of really dedicating time to those. My goal is to be able to better set time (or days) aside each week to work on those projects to help get them out the door and towards publication. I also have “home” and craft projects all over the house, so I need to get better at finishing those up and keeping them tidy!
Keep Up With My Phone: (This one is for you, Hailey) Ask anyone, what day is not complete without my asking “Where is my phone?” It’s no lie, I misplace my phone at least 2 times every hour. I don’t know what it is and I am not sure why. I know that as I am moving around, I just set my phone down as I am on the go. But it has become a bit of a problem and has made me late a few times. I’m not sure how I am going to accomplish this goal, but if you have suggestions please let me know!
I am really looking forward to posting more and keeping you all updated on maintaining my goals. I wish you all the best new year and hope that we all stick to our resolutions! Now, time to stretch!
Cheers!
Kelly
