Distressed Wood Shelf Tutorial

distressed

We needed a shelf over the TV for decor so I went to Hobby Lobby and found a plain wooden shelf for about $15. The shelf I bought looked too plani for my liking so I decided to give it a distressed look. Here is how I did it.

The shelf that I bought had hooks in it so I pulled those out and filled them with wood filler.

Next, I took my hammer and started banging the wood with it to make indentures. I also used screws and hooks to give it different types of distressed looks.

Next, I had some stain left over from another project and I began to stain the wood.

After the stain dried I then painted a coat of white paint on top of the stain.

When the white paint was dry to the touch, I took sand paper and sanded the paint off. I made sure to get the edges and corners and to not do a perfect job to give it a more antiqued look.

And here are the finished results after mounting it on the wall! I’m very pleased!
